Steven “Bub” Hicks, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, passed away on August 18, 2024. Born to Ethel and Huey Hicks on May 19, 1933, in Douglas, West Virginia.
A veteran of the Korean War, her served at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas where he met his wife of 67 years, Gladys Becker. Steven retired from the Brook Park Ford Company plant after thirty-five years, a commitment that extended even after retirement by only buying Fords and constant reminders to his two daughters that Ford paid their bills.
Steven appreciated the outdoors by fishing, hunting, camping and his true passion, yardwork. He had an uncanny sense of direction, without the benefit of today’s technology. As he often said, while pointing to his temple, “It’s all up here”.
Steven’s memory is honored by his loving wife Gladys, his daughters; Diane Holloway and Tammy Hartley, and her spouse John Hartley. Their son, Steven’s grandson, Mitchell and his family; Tonya and Steven’s great grandson, Kannaan Hartley.
Steven was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Savanna Holloway, his brothers, Perry and Billy, and his sisters Dorthy and Jessie. His sister Martha Leigh is his only surviving sibling.
A service to Celebrate Steven’s life will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road Valley City, Ohio 44280.
He will be interred at York Township Cemetery, Mallet Creek, Ohio with military honors immediately after the service.
