Stephen Chylik Obituary

Stephen James Chylik, 72, of Medina, Ohio passed away peacefully, Sunday, September 22, 2024.  Steve was born APRIL 28, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Stephen and Eileen (Bislko) Chylik and was known to his family by the nickname "Jay".  He was a 1970 graduate of St. Edward High School, Cleveland and a 1975 graduate of Cleveland State University with a degree in Business Management.  Steve resided in Litchfield for 34 years prior to moving to Medina.  One of his first jobs as a teenager was at Pick-N-Pay Supermarket where he met a group of friends that maintained a lifelong bond and friendship.  Steve was a small business owner throughout his life, beginning when he was only 24 when, with his father and brother Mike, they purchased a bar in Avon Lake. It was at this bar that Steve met his wife, Kay. Jay and Kay married in August 1978, and just celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary. Steve owned and managed other businesses and in 1994, Steve and Kay bought Dan's Dogs, a Hotdog Eatery in Medina and ran that with their children for 21 years. Steve loved to create new combinations of hotdog toppings, some with more appeal than others (Steve tried for years to put a seafood-topped hotdog on the menu always vetoed by is family). Steve loved watching sports, playing golf and bowling with his buddies, and was a lifelong Cleveland sports fan. He was a great storyteller and loved to be the life of the party.  Steve had a wonderful sense of humor, specializing in "dad jokes" (How do you make a tissue dance? Put a little boogie in it) and he liked to create his own version of dad wisdom ("Don't stick your nose where it's not going to smell anything").  He will be greatly missed by is wife Kay of 46 years, children, Christiana (Dwayne) Gordon, Brian (Bridget) Chylik and Susan (Jason) Gross. Grandchildren, Cameron, Abigail and Lily Gordon, Molly, Luke and Lucy Chylik. Also, survived by two brothers, Mike (Anne) Chylik and Mark (Kelly) Chylik.
