Rose Marie Stanek Austin, age 76, of Valley City, Ohio went to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 14, 2021.
Rose was born in Berea, Ohio on February 20, 1945 to the late Stanley and Mary (Prosowski) Stanek and lived her entire life in Northern Ohio in the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit and Medina. Her parents were owners of a 2-1/2acre vegetable greenhouse, where she got her start in working with plants. She most recently lived in Valley City, Liverpool Township, in Medina County. She comes from a family of eight, four brothers (Norman, Eugene, Jerome and Joseph, and one sister, Mary Huff). She is a longtime companion and best friend of Raymond (Bub) Norris of Valley City, Ohio.
Rose graduated from the Buckeye School System where she was an honor student and very active as an officer in her class. As a member of the Buckeye band, she won numerous awards as a talented clarinet player locally and at state competitions. She remains in close contact with her classmates with luncheons, visits, reunions and even summer vacations in Vermillion on Lake Erie. She was employed at Gowe Printing Co. in Medina for 15 years where she supervised the printing/newspaper department composed of 30 females. She remains in constant contact with many of these workers who she claims as her family of special friends. She went on to Ashland College and Kent State University to earn a degree in teaching Vocational Education. She retired as a Graphic Arts/Printing instructor from the Medina County Career Center (formerly known as the Medina County JVS) after 25 years to become a part time receptionist/secretary at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Valley City, Ohio. She leads a very active and fulfilling life in her love of God, people, animals, gardening and laughter. Rose is an active member of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese
Charismatic Conference Committee, Co-leader of the Light of the World prayer and praise group, the Infant of Prague guild and a member of the St. Martin’s Cloak Healing Team.
Rose is a lifetime member of Printing Industry of America, and held several offices in Iota Lambda Sigma, a fraternity of Technical and Industrial educators at Kent State University. She is more recently serving as president of the Valley City Garden Club which includes over 70 members.
Following Rose’s request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rose, 11:00 AM, Monday, November 22, 2021 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1800 Station Road, Valley City, Ohio. Rev. Robert Franco and Rev. Daniel Reed will co-concelebrate. Burial will follow immediately in St. Martin Church Cemetery, Valley City, Ohio.
