Robert A. Johnson, 90, of Valley City passed onto his heavenly home on Monday, August 22, 2022 with his family at his side.
Bob was born on April 19, 1932 in Hinckley, Ohio to the late Walter and Marguerite (Reuter) Johnson. He has been a lifelong resident of Medina County. Bob was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for many years.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korea Conflict from 1952-54 and a member of the Brunswick American Legion Post 234 and the Brunswick VFW Post 9520. He was noted for his 20 years of service to the veterans in Hinckley’s cemetery for faithfully marking their graves with a flag and the appropriate bronze makers on Memorial Day.
He was devoted to serving as honor guard for military funeral graveside services for his fallen comrades.
Bob worked on his family farm and neighboring farms, drove delivery truck for Fairmount and Horton Dairies before this he entered the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy and graduated in 1962 as an auxiliary patrolman proudly serving 25 years at the Medina County – Ohio State Highway.
Bob enjoyed building birdhouses and feeding the birds in his yard.
He is survived by his daughters, Ruth (Stanley) Henderson and Joan Johnson (Walter Kobak) and daughter-in-law- Lois Johnson.
Grandchildren, Sherry Weber, Anthony Johnson and Holly Henderson; Great grandchildren- Sarah, Jacob and Damien. Sisters- Caroline Kosman and Shirley Halblaub, Brother Ralph Johnson.
Preceded in death by his first wife- Marion Johnson in 1996 and second wife Marilyn Johnson in 2014; his son, Donald Johnson in 2019 and also a sister Helen Wille and little brother Wayne.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 PM Thursday, August 25, 2022 at in the Gathering area of Zion Lutheran Church 2233 Abbeyville Road Valley City. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday at the church, followed with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorials are suggested if desired may be made to donor’s choice.
