Paul G. Kompier
On October 26, 2024 our dad knocked and the promise of his Savior was fulfilled. The door was opened as he walked into his Father’s arms, where he was greeted into his eternal life with God. Our mom stood waiting her turn to great him, only to be held in his arms again.
Dad was born in Cleveland on February 26, 1933 to Paul and Mary (nee Abrinko) Kompier. He met the love of his life at a church dance, where she swept him off his feet and the rest is history. Dad and Mom (Dorothy nee Makuch) doted on each other for 65 years. During those years they had seven children, Janine Davis, Paul Kompier, Cindy Baratko, Patty Powell, Karina Kompier, Melissa Kompier and David Kompier. Dad was mom’s sidekick, as mom was his. They were always seen together whether it was at the grocery store, hardware store or lumber yard for a new adventure dad was starting. He was a jack of all trades and dipped his hands into many things. Dad started his career at the Forest City Foundry in Cleveland while in high school. He worked for the Cuyahoga County Engineers, while driving a school bus for St. Mary’s Byzantine School in Cleveland. He then went to becoming a station manager for American Airlines and then for Riddle Airlines. From there he became a production manager for US Steel in California then transferred back to Ohio. After leaving US Steel, he went back to the airport as a logistics manager for Jet Air Freight. Again, making a change in careers, his final stop was with Ohio Bell Telephone/Ameritech, until his retirement in 1990. During his time in the working world, he flipped houses, always making things better for his family. And for a short time adventured in a small dairy farm with his wife by his side. After retirement, he held a part time position doing maintenance for Our Lady Help of Christians parish. Dad was also a firefighter/EMT, becoming Deputy Chief for Litchfield Township Fire Department. After leaving Litchfield Fire Department, he volunteered for Chatham Fire Department.
He also served as Litchfield Township Trustee. He was a Sergeant First Class in the Army Reserves for nine years, enlisting in 1950 served his country during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his seven children, he had 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy of 65 years, daughters, Janine and Karina, grandsons, Gary and James and a great granddaughter McKayla.
