Marilyn J. (French) Helmick

Marilyn Jean Helmick (nee French), 93, of Valley City joined her late husband Donald on Saturday, July 29, 2023.

She was born on January 1, 1930 in Barberton, Ohio. She lived in and around that area until moving with her husband and daughters to Valley City in 1960, where they lived on their own private airport.

As a full time, housewife, she kept an immaculate home.  Her main enjoyment came when the housework was finished for the day and she could sit and pick up her sewing.  She would create with a needle and thread until it was time for another creation-dinner.  She was an awesome cook

In her younger years she hosted Tupperware parties along with large meals for family and friends.  She enjoyed traveling the United States both by care and private airplane.  In the summer, most beautiful Sunday mornings were spent flying off to breakfast or some other aviation adventure.

She is survived by her daughters, Susann Gonzales (Fernando) and Bonnie Safran (Brian).  Three grandchildren, Donald Gonzales (Adrianne), Jenna Gonzales (Jeremy) and Kevin Gonzales.  Donald and Adrianne gave her Elena, her only great grandchild.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 1:00- 4:00 p.m. at the Diamond Event Center, located at 1480 Pearl Road in Brunswick. A light lunch and beverages will be available.  Please bring only your memories to share with us all.

Her favorite bird was the hummingbird.  They return each May and stay until September.  When you see one, please think of it as a visit from Marilyn.
