Lois Marie (Hoyt) Newman was greeted joyously into heaven by a multitude of family and friends on Sunday, May 5th, 2024. Her name means, “Warrior’ and “Heroine” and she lived out her life according to her name.
Lois had a favorite Scripture that guided her life of 100 years:
“The Lord is my strength and my shield, my heart trusts in Him and I am helped. Therefore, my heart greatly rejoices and with my song I will praise Him.”
Life was never dull for Lois seeing that she was one of seven children born to John and Edith Hoyt in New Britain, CT on July 24, 1923. Her one hundred years included graduating from Philadelphia School of Bible (now Cairn University) where she met her husband, Woody Newman. Their life together began in July,1946 and was spent in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ by shepherding and serving the many parishioners at the three churches where they were called.
Lois was the principal of Grace Christian School and taught kindergarten for many years. After her husband died in 1991, Lois became a very active volunteer for Hospice. Her special gift was to stay up all night in homes where the caretaker of the ill family member needed a good night’s sleep. She was so gracious in this task and would often say that she actually was the one being blessed.
Lois loved painting, a talent she gained from her father. She also enjoyed singing hymns and could beat anyone when it came to putting together a puzzle! Another talent and joy of hers was writing short stories.
Lois is greatly missed by her family and many friends... by her two adopted children, Shirley (Newman) Van Epp and Mark Newman; Shirley’s husband, John Van Epp; Lois’ two granddaughters, Morgan (Van Epp) Cutlip and husband Chad, and Jessica (Van Epp) Berarducci and husband Patrick; and her five beautiful great-grandchildren: Effie and Roy Cutlip, and Wesley, Eden, and Ellis Berarducci. Lois is also survived by three of her brothers: David Hoyt, Jack Hoyt (wife Carol), and Bill Hoyt (wife Gwyn).
For years, Lois showed her love for her granddaughters by celebrating Christmas with a myriad of gifts, playing games, reading books, cooking amazing pancakes for breakfasts, and going on adventures.
Lois left a message to those she loved:
“When I am gone, just release me, let me go
so I can move into my afterglow.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
but now it is time I travel on alone.”
Mom (Lois), you will always be in our hearts.
