Leonard L. Filous, 98, of Valley City, Ohio passed into heaven on November 20, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Leonard was born December 19, 1922 to Frank and Anna (Vitak) Filous.
Leonard graduated from Liverpool High School. He was athletic and participated in basketball while in high school. He worked on the family farm until he was drafted in to the Army in 1942, serving as a Military Police officer in the European Theater. Upon his return home from the Army, he married the love of his life Doris Haumesser. Together they raised six children. Leonard was a mason/carpenter by trade first working on his own and later at the Veteran’s Hospital in Cleveland. He also enjoyed gardening often taking excess vegetables into work to share with co-workers. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He had many grandchildren and great grandchildren to spoil. Leonard could also be seen many days attending sporting events cheering on his children and grandchildren. He also cherished family events such as picnics, egg hunts, holidays and just weekend visits.
He will be greatly missed by his children Patricia (Mark) Wurstle, Dale (Laura) Filous, Karen (Dave) Kinsey, James L. (Deana) Filous, Pamela (Clay) Woodhall, Kathy Jo (KJ) Filous (Chris Reiber); grandchildren, Jessica (Andrew) Peck, Nicole (Sam) Wurstle-Farina, Joseph (Angela) Filous, Sarah (Ben) Spector, Jaclyn (Victor) Tehensky, Jenna Kinsey, Jake (Katherine) Kinsey, Katie (Jordan) Filous Malka, Lauren (Hobie) Shaw, Sam (Taylor) Filous, Amanda Woodhall, Cory Woodhall and Cassandra Steele. Great grandchildren, Jacob Peck, Thomas, Bridget, Christopher, Gus, Damien and Michael Filous, Sammy and Julia Spector, Mila Tehensky, Kendall and JJ Kinsey, Lev Filous Malka and Lenny Shaw.
He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents, brothers Nelson, Raymond, Frank (Evelyn), Robert (Celeste), George (Janet) and Sisters Mariann (Edward) Rotatori, Millie (Frank) Sciuto, grandchild baby Steele and great grandchildren Lyla Spector and JD Tehensky.
Visitation will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday. November 24, 2021 in the Gathering Area of St. Martin of Tours 1800 Station Road Valley City, OH, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel.
The family requests masks to be worn for the safety of everyone.
Interment to follow in St. Martin Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Martin Building Fund or a charity of donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank Plum Creek Assisted Living and Traditions Hospice for their care of Leonard for the past year and a half.
