It is with sadness for our loss that we announce the peaceful passing into eternal life of Karen Ann Miles (nee Hergenrother) at her home in Ashland, Ohio on May 8, 2024. Karen was born on November 9, 1942, the eldest child of Pauline and Paul Hergenrother of Smethport, PA. A graduate of Smethport Area schools and Mercyhurst College in Erie, she entered the teaching profession and taught in the Cleveland and Medina area schools until health issues kept her from the classroom. Karen had a lifetime passion for knitting, sewing, and painting and shared her creations generously with others, privately and as a longtime member of the St. Martin’s Knitting Group. She had a particular love of animals, especially the many dogs that graced her life throughout the years. Karen shared this love through her active participation in Therapy Dogs and Bullmastiff Rescue. A knowledgeable and enthusiastic fan, Karen enjoyed watching the Cleveland Cavaliers. Karen will be greatly missed by friends whose lives she touched with humor, wit, and love. Karen is survived by her brothers, Peter and Patrick (Jennifer) Hergenrother and a sister, Lisa Hergenrother Miller (Jeffery), daughter Mary Wasmer and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, Randy Miles, her parents, her sister Mary Murosky, her brothers Paul Joseph Hergenrother and Andrew Hergenrother. A joint committal service for Karen and Randy will be held at St. Martin of Tours Cemetery, 1800 Station Rd., Valley City, OH 44280 on June 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM. A celebration of their lives will follow at Samosky’s, 6738 Center Road, Valley City.
