Josephine Marie (Krzic) Shanno

Josephine Marie Shanno, 97, of Medina, Ohio passed peacefully into her heavenly home on Friday, January 10, 2025.

Born on March 19, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Alois and Jennie (Kotnik) Krzic.  Jo lived a life full of faith, kindness, and love. She resided in Medina County for many years, building a legacy of devotion to her family, and her community.

Jo was a woman of unparalleled kindness; she saw the good in everyone, and treated all she met with warmth and compassion.  Her life was a testament to her steadfast Christian faith, which she shared generously with those around her. For many years, she ran the nursery at Litchfield Assembly of God Church, where she lovingly cared for children and taught Bible lessons. Though unable to attend in her later years, Jo remained fervent in her faith, treasuring her church family as her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Jo had a passion for traveling, especially during the summer, and was happiest in warm climates where she could swim and bask in the heat she adored. Known for keeping her home cozy and warm, she often attributed her long life to her unique habit of drinking water without ice.  She loved visiting Amish country, listening to bluegrass music and sharing these joys with her loved ones.

A devoted wife to her late husband, Joseph, Sr., a WWII POW. Jo was deeply committed to honoring and supporting veterans.  For many years, she contributed to organizations such as DISABLED American Veterans, (DAV), POWs, American Veterans (AMVETS) and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).  She often remined others that freedom is the greatest blessing and encouraged everyone to honor and remember the sacrifices of service members who protect it.

Jo’s greatest joy was her family.  She was a proud homemaker who raised eight children and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren, spending as much time with them as possible.  Her love and dedication will forever be remembered by her children:

 Sharon Padgett (Jim deceased), Tony (Saundra) Krzic, Joseph, Jr. (Cathy) Shanno, Jennie Shanno, (Ron, deceased), Irene (Mark) Aigler, Anna (John) Sabo, Steven (Denise) Shanno and Michael Shanno; as well as her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph Sr., and her brothers Alex Krzic and William Krzic.

At Jo’s request, cremation has taken place.  A burial will occur at a later date at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Valley City, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to any veteran organization in Jo’s honor.

Jo’s kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family and community leaves a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew her.
