John Edward Johnson, 78, a warm and caring man known for his deep love of family and un wavering faith, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024. Beloved husband of Diane (nee Zacharias) for 32 years, he was preceded in death by his parents, Eloise and Cloyce Johnson; stepmother Kathryn Johnson, and brother-in-law Dean Evans. He is survived by his brother Jerry (Sandy) Johnson, sister Terry Evans, step-sister Marilyn (Tony) Ballein, step-brother Steve (Pat) Leach, daughters, Jodi (B.J.) Hallinan, Jennifer (Jamie) Siguenza, Sarah (Todd) Myers, sons, Jeff (Angi) Johnson, Matt Buddie, grandchildren, Arielle, Bartley, Codi, Cassandra, Ryan, Caden, Rylee, Noelle, Natalie, Audrey, Mackenzie, Wyatt and Amina, and 3 great grandchildren.
John was born in Long Beach, California, and spent much of his life on the West Coast before falling in love with Diane and moving to Valley City. A man of many talents, he was a skilled woodworker, entrepreneur, storyteller, Corvette enthusiast ad tinkerer, always with a keen eye for problem-solving and improvement. After retirement from his manufacturing business, John crafted numerous pieces of furniture, rocking horses, and other pieces that continue to grace churches and homes today. John supported Team Jesus not only financially but by making thousands of wooden crosses, at least 10,000 Chi Rho medallions to distribute to Africa. As a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, John’s faith and love of Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life. His laughter and affection brought joy and calm to everyone around him. John’s life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity and the importance of cherishing each moment. He will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to the funeral service on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church 1377 Lester Road Valley City, OH. Calling hours will be from 9:30-11:30 a.m. with the service starting at 11:30. Please stay for lunch which will follow at the church.
