James “Jim” Everrett Raines, 72, of Seville, Ohio, passed away Friday, March 28, 2025 at home surrounded by family.
Jim was born to the late Everrett Raines and Sarah Harmon on April 1, 1952, in Sandyville, West Virginia. His childhood was full of many cherished memories with his siblings. Jim was a jack of all trades. He made his way north to Seville, OH where he met a farmer’s daughter while out working on a tractor and later married her. He switched gears and worked for an asphalt company before becoming a long haul truck driver and owning his own company for many years. Jim could fix any vehicle, usually by just hearing what sound it was making. A few cuss words may have been shed, but the vehicle would be as good as new once he was done with it. He was always willing to help someone in need, even if it meant giving them the shirt off his back.
Jim enjoyed going to shooting matches all over the United States, bingo, watching old western shows, gardening, showing Belgian Draft Horses, and spending time with his family. Jim and his grandson, Colton, were inseparable. Jim loved spending time with him fishing, riding the four wheeler and teaching him all he knew about life.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joan, daughters, Chelsea Ball of Seville, Zelda (Alex) Kungl of Medina, grandson Colton, sisters Dorothy (Basil) Rhodes of Bluffton, IN, Nora (John) Casto of Portland, OH, Ann (Eugene) Casto of Portland, OH, Donna Stoffel of Portland, OH and loved by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Father Everrett Raines, his mother Sarah Harmon, brother Donald Raines and nephew Basil Rhodes Jr.
His family would like to thank all of those who were there for him in his final days. A celebration of life will take place at a later time.
Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City has the honor of serving the Raines family.
