Herbert Rauhaus Obituary

Herbert W. Rauhaus, 87, of Liverpool Township passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2020.

He was born August 20, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio to the late Helmuth and Elizabeth (Pollman) Rauhaus.  He was a 1950 Graduate of Parma Schaaf High School.  Herb had resided in Columbia Station prior to moving to Valley City in 1973.

Herb served our country in the 25th Infantry Division as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He received a bronze Service Star medal, United Nations Service medal and a National Defense Service medal.

Herb was a tool & die maker by trade and taught at Max Hayes Vocational School, Cleveland, retiring in 1988.

He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Valley City, where he served as an Elder, financial secretary and was involved in the youth group activities while his kids were growing up. Herb would dress up as Santa Claus, visiting friends and family during the holiday.

Herb was instrumental in forming the Columbia Station Radio Control Club in 1968, which became the Valley City Radio Control Club in 1973.

He started his airplane business of the Hobby Hangar, which is currently owned & operated by his son Henry.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilynn (nee Reinking), twin daughters, Gretchen (Mike) Apple and Heidi (Steven) Ohrt and a son Henry (Mary Beth) Rauhaus, grandchildren, Rachel, Alex, Sara, Sophia, Vivian and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by cousins, Norma Nagy and Bill Pollman.

Herb was preceded in death by his only sister, Anita (Norman) Fallert.

Private family graveside service to be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Valley City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1377 Lester Road, Valley City, 0H 44280.
