Douglas McKay Obituary

Douglas F. Mc Kay, 99, of Valley City, Ohio passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021, peacefully with his family at his side and was reunited with his wife Isabelle, whom he missed very much.

Doug was born August 7, 1921 in Willard, Ohio to the late Fred and Gertrude (Kenny) Mc Kay. He missed his 100th birthday by only five months. Doug had built his home in Valley City back in 1974 and was fortunate to reside there up until several months ago when he needed more medical assistance and moved to Pearlview Care Center in Brunswick.

Doug had served in the Civilian Conservation Corp after he graduated from high school and worked as a laborer building the Hoover Dam and fighting forest fires in Nevada. When World War II broke out, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Langley in the Pacific Theater.

After the war he went to work for Ford Motor Company cleaning engine blocks and worked his way up to tool & die maker for 38 years.

Doug was a proud and devoted Irish catholic and a longtime member of St. Martin of Tours, Valley City. He enjoyed the outdoors whether it was pruning or cutting down trees on his property into his early 90’s.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Beverly (Joe) Lakatosh, Douglas Jr. (Donna) Mc Kay and Isabelle (Carl) Bratcher, grandchildren, Debbie Bengough, Joe Lakatosh, Danielle Dubber, Douglas F. Mc Kay, III; Jason Meyers, Shane Meyers, Matthew Bratcher and Stephanie Mc Curdy; many great and great great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife Isabelle, having been married 71 years. Grandson, Joseph Fred Lakatosh, brother- Robert McKay, sisters, Dorothy and Betty.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation Weds., March 24, 2021 from 10:00- 11:00 AM in the Gathering area of St. Martin of Tours, 1800 Station Road, Valley City, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Facial Masks are required and social distancing respected.

Interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, Valley City.

Sending heartfelt Thank you to his caregivers, Izzy, Douglas, Donna, Michelle, the staff of Pearlview and a special Thanks to Hospice of In Care Ohio. You all were wonderful and supportive to our family.
