Darlene "Penny" Mason

Darlene “Penny” Mason, age 73, of Valley City passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

Penny was born October 6, 1947 in East Cleveland and grew up in Medina County. She has resided in Valley City since 1970.

Penny served the Lord in ministry for over 50 years, from serving in the nursery at First Baptist of Valley City to teaching a Sunday School class at Grace Baptist Church, Brunswick.

Penny had opened her home to Day Care for numerous youngsters for 47 years.  She was known fondly as “Miss Penny” and “Mama Mason” to her kids. Penny was working up to the final week before the Lord took her home.  Even though her body was weak she still was able to hold and love the children she cared for.

Penny Mason is one of the most kind hearted, caring, compassionate, and loving individuals that anyone could have met. She is not only a good Christian woman who lives by the word of the Lord but has given her life to watch, cherish and help children grow.  She has been a saving grace to many people in the community throughout the years. Her house is a safe place for these children to go to play and learn while their parents are at work. Penny treats each and every one of the kids that she watches just as she does her own children and grandchildren. Penny cherishes all of the children she watches. Penny is not only a lifesaver to all the children’s families she cared for, but to her own family as well. She has two children and four granddaughters.  Penny is so proud of her family and she would do anything for all of them.  Penny has always been a “big” part of her granddaughters lives despite having long days watching other people’s children.

Penny will be greatly missed by her husband Larry, married 53 years in April, Daughter Christine (Jamie) Prill, their daughters, Penny & Kaley; Son, Scott (Leah) Mason, their daughters, Ashlyn & Eleora; her sisters, Sherry Hall (Missy) and Gail Jeffrey (Amy) and her brother Joe Srodek (Justine & Janelle).

A Homegoing Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Grace Baptist Church, 3289 Laurel Road, Brunswick, OH, followed by fellowship gathering.

Contributions may be made to the family to help defray final expenses.
