Daniel Craig Lewanski, 76, of Valley City, went onto his heavenly home on Sunday, November 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Dan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 20, 1947 to the late Stanley and Grace (Betterley) Lewanski. He grew up in the Brooklyn/Cleveland area and moved to Valley City in 1985. Dan was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam war where he earned his CIB pin (Combat In Battle). He also served in Intelligence prior to his honorable discharge as Staff Sargeant.
Dan was extremely proud and honored to have served his country.
He was a very active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church where he was called to serve in many ministry positions, including PB&J Brigade, Bingo, Fish Fry, Summer Festival, and an honorary member of the Women’s Guild.
Dan and his wife Anne operated Danne’s Foods & Gifts for 36 years and were very supportive of the 4-H kid’s and their projects. Dan was also a licensed gemologist and had owned his own jewelry store years ago, The Silver Palace.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Anne, married 42 years and his children: Cheryl Prock, Mary Lou Edwards, Lori (Mark) Drotos and Jeffrey Lewanski. Grandchildren: Daniel Craig (Macy), Abigail, Nina, Kaitlyn, Lynn, Kristine, Stanley, Benjamin, Hannah, Thomas, Leah and Charlize. Great Grandchildren: Khloe Anne, Brayden, Kamura and Jemora.
Preceded in death by his sister, Diane.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 PM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio. There will be a viewing from 9:00-10:00 AM on Friday, prior to the Mass.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 1, 2023 at St. Ambrose. Burial to follow at St. Martin of Tours Cemetery, Valley City, Ohio.
The Bauer Funeral Home, Valley City has the honor of serving the Lewanski family.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Cleveland VA Fisher House, Tunnel 2 Towers and/or Wounded Warrior Project.
