Carol A. (Hastings) Hellmers

Carol A. Hellmers, 88, of York Twp., Medina, Ohio passed away at her home on Monday, August 11, 2025.

Carol was born June 4, 1937 in Lodi, Ohio to the late Austin and Ruth (Reutter) Hastings.  She has been a lifelong resident of Medina County.

Carol was a member of the Medina Eagles, Medina Moose, Harley Club, “HOG” group and vintage car groups.  After graduation from Medina High School, she worked for Ohio Bell, in Cleveland and then retired from Sealy Mattress in Medina after 27 years of service.

Carol enjoyed sewing and teaching others to sew, making nearly 130 baby quilts for family and friends. She and her late husband Amil, enjoyed traveling the United States on their Harley motorcycles.  She had a great love for her family, cooking Thursday night family dinners was her specialty, where all were welcome.

She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Survived by her beloved children, John (Yvonne) Brine, Alan (Robin) Brine, Diane (Doug) Areskog, Jackie (Mark) Hamad and Mark Hellmers (David Gentile). Adored grandmother of 15, cherished great grandmother of 17, sister of Marty Easton Swenskie and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her devoted husband, Amil Hellmers, 2014, siblings, Lois Lassond, Phyllis Kimble, Barbara Towslee, Donald (Butch) Hastings, granddaughter Melissa Hayes and great grandson Mark Joseph “Jr” Distaulo.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-8:00 pm, Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road Valley City, with the Funeral Service 12:00-Noon on Monday, August 18, 2025 at the funeral home. Immediately following will be the burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, Ohio.
