Belvia Hann Obituary

Belvia Hann, 89, passed away February 21, 2023 at her home with her granddaughters & beloved cat by her side.   Belvia was born in Diana, West Virginia on January 16, 1934 to the late Roy & Bertha (Armentrout) Gilles.

Belvia is survived by her loving granddaughters Crystal (Kevin) Haug of Medina, Angela (Pete) Kolomichuk of Medina, great-grandsons Peter (Olivia) Kolomichuk of Brunswick & Austin Kolomichuk of Medina, son-in-law Thomas Knight of Medina, sisters Sylvia Mollohan of Medina, Sue Chapman of Medina and Brenda (Tom) Swartz of Medina, step-daughter Jacqui Hann of Creston, step-son Greg (Sue) Hann of Navarre, step-grandchildren Jami (Jim) Marsh of Wooster, Dana Norris, George Adam Hann, Amy Bekavac, Zachary Hann, Hali Reilheld, Ryan Norris & many more close family and friends.  She will also be missed by Sweetie cat, who has been by her side through the last couple of years.

Belvia was preceded in death by her husband George Hann in 2019, her daughter, Janet Knight in 2021, brother Skip Gilles, sister Pauline Cogar, as well as her first husband, Roy Kinder, Jr.

Belvia owned & operated “Kinders Kut & Kurl” in Medina for many years, until she sold the business and retired in 1983 to move to Dalton, Ohio.  She was a woman of many talents.  In addition to traveling to over 80 countries with George, she made quilts, stained glass items, candy, jewelry & dolls, just to name a few things.  In 1965 she obtained her pilots license from Freedom Field in Medina and loved flying over her family’s homes in Medina.  In 1968, she was the first female to sign up for the demolition derby at the Medina County fair.  Anything she wanted to do, she did it!

She married George in 1983, and moved to Dalton, Ohio.  Shortly after he passed in 2019, she was diagnosed with dementia.  In 2020, her family moved her to Medina to be closer to them, so they could care for her as her dementia progressed.

The family would like to thank the care team from Hospice, who took great care of her, and were a great support to the family during her last days.  Especially, her nurse Corrine, her aide Alicia, music therapist Natalie, and her social worker Stacey.

Calling hours & services will be held at Sonnenberg Mennonite Church 14367 Hackett Rd., Kidron, OH 44636, on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 pm & Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 10:00-11:00 am, with a memorial service beginning at 11:00, followed by a graveside service.
