James Burr Obituary

James Richard Burr, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on December 23, 2019 at the age of 92.

James was born on October 18, 1927 in Russelville, West Virginia to the late Weston and Zada (Martin) Burr. He was the oldest of 9 children and grew up helping on the family farm.

He graduated from, Nuttall High School in 1947. A short time later he met the love of his life, Nancy Worlledge and they were married on October 14, 1951.

James served in the US Army as a corporal during the Korean War. His training as a surveyor and mechanic was put to use during his time overseas.

He was blessed with many talents.  He especially loved building and built his own home.  He was also a craftsman in woodworking, making furniture and a beautiful Grandfather clock from a black walnut tree he had cut down.  He also enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, camping, fishing, steam trains, his German Shepherd, Timbur.  He was a great Dad and Grandpa who loved spending time with kids.  He even made the grandkids an outside electric-powered train they could ride.

He served the Lord and loved to talk to people about God.  He had a servant’s heart spending many hours helping to build the First Baptist Church in Brunswick.  He also was very involved as Deacon, S.S. Teacher, Trustee, Assistant Treasurer and choir member.  One of the highlights of his ministry was a Mission trip to Papua, New Guinea in 1988 to help build churches there.  He worked at the Tank Plant in Cleveland and later retired from GM after working at the Terex Pant in Hudson, Ohio.

James will be greatly missed by his three daughters: Judy (Charlie) Gosnell, Karen (William) Amacher, and Joycelyn (Glen) Jones.  Four grandchildren: Melanie (Aaron) Stroup, Brandon (Rachel) Gosnell, Rebecca Amacher and Derrick Jones. Five great-grandchildren: Leah, Emma & Anna Stroup, Reed & Maeve Gosnell. Brothers: Jerald (Margaret) Burr, Elmer (Marysue) Burr and Sisters: Ruth White, Janice Boley and Zada Ann Burr.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; brothers, Jerry and Robert Burr and sister, Virginia Mayhew.
