Erna E. Mastney

Erna E. Mastney, 93, of Valley City, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday. August 7, 2019. Erna loved to entertain family and guest from all over at her Valley City home. Her family home and hospitality were always available to those she loved and she enjoyed hosting gatherings both large and small for picnics and celebrations. She was born on May 9, 1926 in Cleveland, to Peter and Josephine (nee Lutz) Lauerhahs. She was a lifetime member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Valley City. She grew up in Valley City and lived in North Olmsted where she excelled in many hobbies including ceramics, sewing and tailoring and cake decorating. She returned to her hometown of Valley City more than 50 years ago. Erna and her late husband Edward, were lifetime organic gardeners and took much pride in planting their vegetable and flower gardens. She was a prolific china painter and taught porcelain artistry in her home studio for many years. She was an active participant in both the Ohio (OPAT) and International (IPAT) Porcelain Artist Teachers associations. Erna traveled all over the United States and the world including Europe, Russia, China and South America with fellow china painters. Erna is survived by her children, Dianna Csikos, Dennis (Shirley) Mastney, Carol Wagner (Joe Stewart) and Karen (Kevin) Fobbs; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 67 years Edward, brother Albert E. Lauerhahs, son-in-law, George Csikos and step-father, Rollie P. Law. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 6656 Center Road Valley City, with Rev. Bert Ambrose, officiating Interment will follow at Rest Acre Cemetery, Valley City. Calling hours- 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Bauer Funeral Home 2089 Columbia Road Valley City, OH In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
